SUC Scope

SUC Scope Guidance

The Environment Agency has declared that “Single Use Cameras should be reported as non-household EEE when put on the market in the UK” and stressed that their view “represents a pragmatic approach, based on a number of factors, including whether the objectives of the Directive are likely to be met”.

Clarity on the scope of the Single Use Camera (or SUC for short) was reached after statistical information on the SUC lifecycle was compiled by the Budget Pack Compliance Scheme which represents the UK’s Photo Imaging Council with members such as Kodak and FUJIFILM UK.  The result confirms how the UK should declare Single Use Cameras within the producer data submission requirements of the WEEE Regulations.

The Environment Agency’s statement was provided after consultation with BERR but importantly does not represent a policy steer, and the Environment Agency also stressed that “any consideration of other types of EEE would be considered on a case by case basis”.
