New Recycling Target for Packaging Waste (23/04/2008)

DEFRA have announced an amendment to their recycling targets for 2008.

The increase in the amount of recycling required is in line with the UK’s target to meet the 2008 EU Directive target of recycling at least 60% of our packaging waste.

In 2008 alone, the new higher targets will save over 8m tonnes of CO₂ from being emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere. The targets are set to increase again over the following 2 years, which will lead to a further saving of 258,097 tonnes of CO₂ in 2009 and then an additional 285,436 tonnes in 2010.

Many of the existing companies who register directly with the Environment Agency and take on the full workload and responsibility may fail to meet their obligations by not meeting these targets. Members of Budget Pack will be working in accordance with these revised targets into the future with our assistance to ensure they avoid the penalties associated with non-compliance.
