Red Bull Wings Clipped (06/08/2009)

Biggest fine in history of Packaging Regulations handed down to drinks importer The Red Bull Company Limited. Last week the energy drink giant Red Bull was prosecuted by the Environment Agency for failing to comply with the Packaging Waste Regulations from 1999 – 2006. After a court appearance the company was fined over £260,000 for offences in addition to Agency costs and avoided fees.

Under the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007, businesses which have an annual turnover in excess of £2 million and handle more than 50 tonnes of packaging each year, must be registered with the Environment Agency or a compliance scheme like Budget Pack. Each year, obligated businesses must offset the weight of packaging around goods with recycling evidence.

This is yet another example of where a company has failed to take note of the legislation, guidance and information on legal obligations issued by the government and also and schemes like Budget Pack. By joining a scheme like Budget Pack we can guarantee to bring you into compliance this year, with minimum time and resources diverted away from your core business. Our aim is to get you best value and a low cost complete solution.

Budget Pack works along side each of our members to qualify who may (or may not) be affected by this UK law and provide a bespoke report to confirm our findings. Any subsequent registration is based upon these findings where we find a member is obligated, so there is no duplication of efforts. We then maintain this registration on your behalf to fulfill all requirements.
