PIC pick Budget Pack (16/09/2009)

Photo Imaging Council (PIC) Directors and members are expected to confirm Budget Pack as its compliance scheme operator for the Batteries Regulations (subject to approval on the 30th September).

Budget Pack currently act as the endorsed WEEE compliance scheme for PIC members. Budget Pack is also likely to become the compliance solution provider to ensure PICs members fully adhere to the Batteries Directive.

PIC believe Budget Pack will offer good value for its members who have to commit to a scheme before the 15th October.

PIC’s Elaine Cole said ”The professionalism and support that Budget Pack have offered our members for WEEE compliance, makes them our preferred scheme for Batteries compliance. We expect to see Budget Pack continue to operate by their company mantra of bringing fairness and flexibility to the compliance market”

Budget Pack Client Services Director James Potten said: “We look forward to further strengthening our relationship with the photographic and imaging industry, to ensure we offer each and every member of our scheme the tailored service they deserve”

The Batteries Regulations have been introduced to reduce the 600 million portable batteries that currently end up in UK landfill sites each year. Set targets aim to ensure 25 per cent of these batteries are recycled by 2012, which then rises to 45 per cent by 2016.

The compliance schemes are required to put in place an adequate battery collection infrastructure in order to match their members’ aggregated obligations to recycle waste portable batteries. The Environment Agency is currently ensuring that only schemes with appropriate operational plans are approved.
