WEEE Compliance

The WEEE Regulations

The UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations were introduced in 2007; their aim is to encourage companies that produce or distribute electrical items to reduce the environmental impact of electronic waste.

If your business meets the criteria set out in the WEEE Regulations, then you will be classed as either a WEEE 'producer', or 'distributor', both of which are outlined below;

Producer   Distributor

A business that manufactures, imports or rebrands electrical or electronic equipment in the UK.

You will be required to finance the collection, treatment and recovery of WEEE and to complete several paperwork and reporting functions.

A business that sells household electrical or electronic equipment to the end user.

Distributors have a responsibility to offer take back of end of life electrical and electronic equipment.
